Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (Civil War - Union Officer)

Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (Civil War - Union Officer)

Colonel Chamberlain comes as he appeared at the battle of Gettysburg July 2nd 1863:

  • Superior Officers Frock Coat
  • Navy Blue Officers Trousers
  • Riding Boots
  • Spurs
  • Gauntlets
  • Field Officers Haversack
  • Binoculars And Case
  • Federal Officers Saber Belt
  • 1850 Field And Staff Officers Sword and Scabbard

Lawrence Chamberlain is most well known as the 'Lion of little Round Top.' On the hot day of July 2nd 1863, during some of the fiercest action seen on the Gettysburg battlefield, Col. Chamberlain ordered his men of the 20th Maine Infantry regiment to 'fix bayonets' and made one of the most audacious and successful bayonet charges in Civil War record. That would be enough for some men, but Chamberlain's deeds were far from finished. He suffered numerous wounds in the years to come, with the worst suffered in the fighting around Petersburg. Shot through the hips, a wound that would have finished most men, he returned to duty carrying the pain of that day for the rest of his life. He fought to the last day of the war at Appomattox Courthouse. There he made one of the most significant gestures of the war. As Confederate General Gordon brought his vanquished command past Chamberlains troops lining the road to surrender, General Chamberlain brought his entire command to attention. A moment of respect and sorrow extended to soldiers that were enemies no longer, but once again Americans. After the war, the 'school teacher' from Maine returned home where his dynamic presence continued to be felt in the areas of education and politics.
